So many choices!

Here's our first design choices poll! (Look at the images below and cast your vote to the right of the post [provided the Poll Gadget is working]!!!)

Which flooring choice do you prefer?

This flooring will go throughout the living room, the dining room, the entry, and hallway.
These pictures were taken on top of the kitchen tile--the flooring choice needs to coordinate.

The Waiting

Tom Petty said it best: https://youtu.be/GhM1t7AwBKk

Waiting is the hardest part, especially since our start date of early September has come and gone. I'm trying to balance my need to know when this will start with not annoying the contractor, but this weekend, I finally emailed and asked for an update. The good news is that the project will begin in early October, and the contractor wrote back last night to ask for a meeting so we can, "hash this all out." I like the sound of that!

It will be a busy weekend! I think we'll finally move the TV out of the living room and into the guest bedroom. I'm not sure what we'll do with the couch--too big to move elsewhere in the house--maybe we'll just cover it in a big plastic sheet for the duration.

More details to follow soon, hopefully!

Before

This September, we're embarking on a house renovation. For 20 years, our living room has been a dark, narrow rectangle:

The living room is adjacent to a sunroom that was poorly constructed, cold in the winter, and warm in the summer. It, too, is rectangular, and generally unattractive:

With this renovation, we plan to combine the two rooms into one light and airy living room, with a through the glass french doors. We'll add on a porch to the front of the house, and replace the large dining room window with more glass french doors:

Currently there is a door leading from the dining room to the kitchen. The door is almost always open:

Therefore, we're going to replace it with an arch. The arch will be the same size as the existing arch that leads from the living room to the dining room:

We're also going to add an arch between the kitchen and the living room, but we're going to make it a pass-through with cabinets beneath, a countertop for baking and a breakfast bar that extends into the living room:

Finally, we'll be adding a front porch to the house. The porch will fill the space between the two wings of the house:

The construction is supposed to begin in September and last for two months. We don't really believe it will go that quickly; we'll be happy if the construction is complete before the holidays.
