Bricks and pavers!

Today we looked at bricks and pavers!

Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 3--one week from today! The first order of business will be the new front porch and patio. Today we went to a local rock retailer to look at choices of brick and other paving stones. The choices seemed to be brick, bluestone, and more bluestone.

Neither Jeff nor I care much for bluestone--it looks elegant, but a little cold. We'd rather have a warm, earthy color, so we'll probably go for brick. We wanted to see more choices than the local establishment had, so we went to Lowe's, but they didn't have brick--just faux brick. This weekend, we'll head down to Roanoke to visit a couple more rock sellers before we go camping.

We still haven't decided on the flooring. Considering everyone's votes, online and offline, we have three votes for each of the choices. I guess we'll have to make the choice ourselves!

Other changes--we've moved the dog's crate from the dining room to the bedroom--she'll want no part of all the people who will be in the house; the dining room table is now on the back porch; and the cat food is on the back (screened-in) porch as well. We don't want the cat to panic and/or get out of the house while the workers are here, so we'll make sure she's in our bedroom each morning before we leave.

So many choices!

Here's our first design choices poll! (Look at the images below and cast your vote to the right of the post [provided the Poll Gadget is working]!!!)

Which flooring choice do you prefer?

This flooring will go throughout the living room, the dining room, the entry, and hallway.
These pictures were taken on top of the kitchen tile--the flooring choice needs to coordinate.

The Waiting

Tom Petty said it best: https://youtu.be/GhM1t7AwBKk

Waiting is the hardest part, especially since our start date of early September has come and gone. I'm trying to balance my need to know when this will start with not annoying the contractor, but this weekend, I finally emailed and asked for an update. The good news is that the project will begin in early October, and the contractor wrote back last night to ask for a meeting so we can, "hash this all out." I like the sound of that!

It will be a busy weekend! I think we'll finally move the TV out of the living room and into the guest bedroom. I'm not sure what we'll do with the couch--too big to move elsewhere in the house--maybe we'll just cover it in a big plastic sheet for the duration.

More details to follow soon, hopefully!
